It’s strongly advised to any new parent to begin a ‘bedtime routine’ for your little one as soon as possible. What that means for a baby under 3 months? I have no idea. My husband and I were just desperate to get the crying bloody murder screams thatwentonforhoursonend to subside. The Witching Hour is a f*cking nightmare, but it does come to an end, even though it feels like it never will.
On nights when the Witching Hour wasn’t as intense, we read out loud to Naomi, as a family. My husband figures we have a very small window to read our daughter whatever we want, because we’ll be stuck with children’s books for years and years soon enough. And so, Agatha Christie has now become apart of Naomi’s bedtime routine — starting with…
Crooked House by Agatha Christie
Crooked House is set in a wealthy countryside town. The patriarch of the Leonides family is found dead, he was poisoned. It could have been an innocent mistake, but was it? The entire Leonides brood lives together in one large mansion — the crooked house (!), where everyone — including the help — has a good motive for murder. It’s up to Charles Hayward, the love interest of one of the Leonides grandchildren, to get to the bottom of it…
Why We Loved It
The Leonides family was quite large and full of rich and colorful characters. Sibling rivalries, strained in-laws, evil children, complex father-son relationships, oh it was a juicy family indeed! It was a pretty quick read and the layers that slowly get built throughout the story are simply wonderful.
Easy read and what you’d expect from an Agatha Christie novel. Would highly recommend. For the record, I correctly guessed the murderer within the first 80 pages, BOOM!
We’ve decided we’re going to continue on with another Christie mystery for Naomi. My husband already purchased The Murder of Roger Ackroyd for our next bedtime story. Stay posted for a review.
