Happy Sunday my dear bookworms! OK, so I’m pretty pumped. After scrolling through a few Page to Screen lists, I’ve pooled together a few great books I highly recommend you read before the movie comes out.
To preface, I’m not a fan when Hollywood decides to take a wonderful book and turn it into a movie (usually never lives up to the expectations), but… these novels are too juicy to say ‘no thank you’ to:
The Light Between the Oceans by M.L. Stedman | September 2016
Oh how much I loved this book. It was so sweet, and sad, and beautifully written. It definetly made me cry, and left me thinking about it for weeks afterwards. Tom and Izzy live in a world of isolation, due to Tom’s job as a lighthouse keeper in the middle of the ocean. After multiple miscarriages and a stillborn, the couple finds a living, breathing, crying baby in a boat that washed up ashore. Izzy insists on keeping it and raising the child as their own. A few years later, the family of three goes to the mainland to visit family for the holidays, and figures out who the child actually belongs to…. Ah so good!
Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins | October 2016
LOVED this book so so so much. As stated above, I’m not terribly keen to see a book I loved get turned into a movie, but I actually am for Girl on the Train. Especially since the role of Rachel — our favorite alcoholic, unreliable narrator — is played by Emily Blunt (hello lady crush). This book was awesome, and one of my favorite reads from 2015.
Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll| TBA 2016
A lot of mixed reviews on this novel, but I was a fan. I remember enjoying it very much, as it’s a pretty gripping read. Good writing, interesting plot line, funny, and horrific all in one. (Review here).
The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson | TBA 2017
I wasn’t sure how I felt about this book at the beginning. But once it got off the ground, it was incredible. I loved it, and I think many people will agree. Murder on murder on murder. And an interesting love triangle, or errrm… rather, a love square… Read it.
The Silent Wife by A.S.A. Harrison | TBA 2017
This was one of those books that took forever for me to get into. I debated quitting about 10 times before I got hooked, nearly halfway through. I’m really glad I stuck with it, because it had a great ending. Summary: wife plans to murder husband in order to settle the score of infidelity. Yes please!
Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King | TBA 2018 (TV mini-series)
Mr. Mercedes is apart of the Bill Hodges Trilogy. Since there are three novels, that are all kind of long, you have plenty of time before the mini-series rolls out in 2018. (Review here).
What are you thoughts on book to movie? Are any of these books you’ve read? Looking forward to seeing in theaters?
