I have always been a South Park fan. Like, a huge South Park fan. When I’m around my two brothers, we quote South Park every now and again, and by every now and again I mean every chance we get. I’ve been dying to see the Book of Mormon for years. When I saw an ad that the show was coming back to the Kennedy Center this summer, and that Jay was going to be staying with me and Alex, I knew it was the perfect Friday night activity for the three of us.
The Book of Mormon
I was a bit skeptical Jay or Alex would have any interest in seeing a musical, but Jay (being my brother) seemed very intrigued when the words ‘writers of South Park’ were uttered after ‘a musical I’ve been wanting to see.’ Alex was a harder sell than that, mainly because he does not find South Park entertaining, at all, nor does he enjoy musicals. None the less, I was able to get them both at the Kennedy Center, Friday night, for our 7:30pm showtime.
When intermission came, and the lights went up, I tentatively looked over at the guys, both seated to my left. I nervously asked what they thought. I was very much relieved to hear comments along the lines of: great show, so funny, awesome idea, I’m glad we’re here.
Very Deep Exhale.
It’s no surprise at all that The Book of Mormon cleaned up at the Tony’s. The choreography, the lyrics, the story, the set, the props, the costumes, the actors, the music… oh my! All of it was just incredible, and as I expected, hilarious. Well done Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Well done.
PS. I’m still having a tough time getting this song out of my head.
We ended the night with a white chocolate and vanilla bean concoction at Circa afterwards, the perfect nightcap.
