So many books. So little time. I have one month left to finish up my 2016 Reading Challenge, and currently have 5 books piled up on my nightstand that are all in queue to be read in December. Some of these books have been waiting patiently on my nightstand since summer while others are much more recent acquisitions.
The five books that need to be finished up and logged on my reading challenge:
Moonwalking with Einstein by Joshua Foer
MWE has been on my nightstand since the summer. I wish I was kidding. It’s actually a really interesting book all about the cultural history of remembering, and our understanding of human memory. It’s exceptionally well written, but at some point in September, I put it down, and have barely been able to read more than 5 pages at a time without getting distracted.
Grit by Angela Duckworth
I bought this for a bookclub I was supposed to attend last minute, then overslept, and missed the book club. Good thing, because I only got through the first three chapters anyhow. With that said, it is a really interesting concept. The author informs us of a little secret: outstanding achievement is not solely correlated with talent, but more so because of a special blend of passion and persistence, which Duckworth calls “grit.” She also has a Ted Talk you should watch. That’s the main reason I picked up the book.
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
This was given to me by my friend Kim for my Bridal Shower earlier this month. It was by far one of the most thoughtful gifts I received, because she knew reading a graphic novel has been on my reading challenge. My plan for book is to read on the 6+ hour journey to Arizona next month.
Daring Greatly by Brené Brown
Oh how I love Brené. I read Rising Strong earlier this year, and wow! It was so good. But I’m a huge sucker for a crime novel, and usually a new release thriller pulls my attention away from non-fiction. See MWE and Grit. Of course there is also her Ted Talk that I recommend you watch too!
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
My father-in-law surprised me with this during his trip to DC last month. Which was so kind and thoughtful. I loved, loved loved Eligible, and wanted to read the actual novel it was heavily mirrored from. Goal is to finish by December 31st!
What’s currently sitting on your nightstand, dear reader?
