I usually beat Alex home from work, with the exception of most Fridays, when he stops off at the florist a few blocks away from our apartment. This has become a (very much appreciated!) routine that sets a great tone for the weekend. Alex has been learning a lot from the florist, mainly, the name of the feature stems in the bouquets he purchases, and as the florist cuts, trims, and preps, she describes various and necessary care in order to preserve. I can’t express how adorable it is, when Alex points out which stems are which.
This particular Friday, he stopped into the Trader Joe’s on his way home from work to pick up challah, wine, and a bouquet of fresh flowers for our at home dinner. What he came back with instead, was challah, wine, and a potted hydrangea plant. He swore he didn’t know the difference, it was cute, but such a typical man moment, ladies amiright?!
I decided this would be a great opportunity to test out how long we would be able to keep a potted plant alive. The very next day, I ran out to AC Moore, and picked up a few clay pots. Since these pink hydrangeas would be parked up next to our mason jar herb garden, on our living room windowsill, I needed everything to flow nicely. Yay for a great weekend project, right?!
My love for chalkboard paint is very childlike, but luckily for me, it’s still very much fashionable. So it was settled. I spent fifteen minutes, tops, painting two coats of chalkboard paint on two clay pots, and voilà! A gorgeous, chalkboard potted plant, featuring vibrant blooms of hydrangeas!
Today is only day one, so please wish us luck on keeping this thing alive for more than a few weeks!
