Anyone who knows me, knows I’m a huge murder mystery bookworm. It’s pretty seldom that when selecting a new book, I veer away from the murder mystery / psychological thriller genre — with the exception of a self-help book or two.
My undying love of murder mystery (pun!) spills over into another type of media — film!
It’s pretty rare that Alex and I have a Friday night at home, watching TV, but one particularly rainy Friday night, we decided to explore the very best murder-y films we could agree on. The first thing that came to mind was Hitchcock — of course! — and his long list of must-see classic horror films.
Many of which make regular appearances on Top Scariest list of all times.
Psycho seemed like a great one to start with. I had never seen the film before, and was blown away by how captivating it was. And that is precisely how our Hitchcock binge got started.
The next free night we had, we watched The Birds. After that, we moved onto to Vertigo, Alex’s favorite (my favorite Hitchcock still remains Psycho). Over Thanksgiving weekend, we convinced Alex’s sister to join us on our Hitchcock obsession, she happily agreed, and we watched Dial M for Murder. I love the MacGuffins and the deep rooted scare factor in each and every one of these films.
Next up, is a book I read earlier this year, Rebecca. The book was far too perfect, with vivid imagery that was all too beautifully haunting. I can’t wait to watch Hitchcock recreate it in film.
Which is your favorite Hitchcock film, dear readers?
