Liane Moriarty has been one of my favorite authors for quite some time. I discovered her back in 2014 when I read The Husband’s Secret on a family vacation, and instantly became a huge fan of her writing.
The Husband’s Secret left me with a bit of a book hangover, so I picked up Big Little Lies next. Which was just excellent. After devouring another one of Moriarty’s novels in less than a week, I was prompted to read What Alice Forgot, and two more of her earlier novels within the next six months. It was official, I had a crush on Moriarty.
Why I Love Liane Moriarty’s Novels So Much
What I love the most about her writing is how gripping her stories are, mainly through excellent pacing, rich three-dimensional characters, and wonderful story telling. It’s the perfect medley for a novel that you can’t and don’t want to put down. I also think that many women feel connected to Moriarty’s writing. She has this special way of digging deep and exploring all female relationships. Whether it’s between a husband-wife, mother-child, siblings, friendships / acquaintances, etc. She always seems to hit the nail on the head.
Also, when I went to see her at an author talk, I was totally smitten with how sweet, funny, and humble she was. She passed through DC on a book tour for Nine Perfect Strangers. I got my book signed, and had to opportunity to tell her how much her writing has impacted me. It was really special.
The Eight Moriarty Novels
Of Liane Moriarty’s eight books, I’ve read seven of them. When I find an author I really, really enjoy, I tend to read as many of their books as possible. I’m picking up a copy The Last Anniversary this week, it’s the only Moriarty I haven’t read. Her books are so bingeable and exactly what I feel like reading right now.
Below is a list of her novels, ranked in order of which I personally loved the best. Not including The Last Anniversary of course, since I haven’t read it yet!
Moriarty Novels:
- The Husband’s Secret
- What Alice Forgot
- Big Little Lies
- Nine Perfect Strangers
- The Hypnotist’s Love Story
- Truly Madly Guiltily
- Three Wishes
Bottom line, if you’re looking for an excellent and impossible to put down novel, I highly recommend any of the above. You honestly can’t go wrong with any of them.
