The New York City Weekend Agenda
Alex’s sister, Abby lives in NYC. We thought this past weekend would be a great time to spend with her. It was absolutely lovely, albeit rainy, and filled with fantastic food, drinks, and so many brunches!
We took the train up from DC Friday afternoon, with absolutely no issues. We were on time to our 8:30pm dinner reservations at Beyoglu, a Mediterranean spot Alex’s sister picked out off 81st Street. We were 0 for 2 when it came to picking out a good bottle of wine, but at least the food was great!
Brunch & Pedicures
Alex had a meeting across town, which left me and his sister together, for some much needed girl time. We had a seriously lazy start to our even lazier Saturday, which kicked-off with a wake-up of 11:30am (so late, and felt so good). I threw on dark skinny jeans, tan flats, a comfy fitted long-sleeve gray shirt, plus my new favorite umbrella, and we were out the door. We cut through Fort Tryon Park on our way to brunch. We indulged in french toast, omelettes, coffee, mimosas, and bellini’s while chatting about everything and nothing.
Relying heavily on YELP for the best nail salon in her neighborhood, led us straight to the most bizarre salon we both have ever stepped into (I use the word salon lightly, as this place was clearly some run down old market, badly redesigned into a ‘salon’). But they had immediate availability for two pedicure, and they were affordable (by NYC standards) at under $45 a pop.
Two pairs of freshly painted feet later, we walked, umbrella in hand, to the nearest cafe to have a mid-afternoon snack , followed by a Sex and the City marathon back at the apartment. At some point, Alex met up with us and the three of us went out for dinner- Indian, of course!
We decided to go to Burke & Will’s for post dinner drinks, where my cousin, and his fiancé (as of 7 days ago, CONGRATS!), met up with us at some point. It was a classy, and lovely spot, chosen by Alex’s sister. The five of us had a truly great time, laughing, drinking, and being completely silly (the Old Fashions played a large role in that).
Gardens & Brunch
We took advantage of Alex’s sisters Washington Heights address by popping into The Cloisters. I once more was taken over with gardeners envy walking through the herb garden in the courtyard of The Cloisters. Buying lavender seeds ASAP.
The rain had yet to cease, so we were once again slaves to the humidity and umbrellas.
Hanger was starting to kick-in around 1pm, so we found a little cafe, and had brunch. We had a 4pm Amtrak ride back to DC, so we said our long goodbyes, and ended yet another fabulous weekend trip.
