Oh hey! Another round of ranting about books that I found annoyingly hyped up so you don’t waste your time. Though, I know no two people read the same book. But either way, I felt let down by all three of these books and here’s why…
OVERRATED READS | VOLUME NO. 10
How to Stop Time by Matt Haig
How to Stop Time was a book club pick based off the recommended list from Real Simple Magazine. It leaves me wondering, did the author of said article actually read this book? If so, yikes is all I can say. How to Stop Time was boring AF with zero likable characters and a plot that seemed to literally go nowhere, even though the book is spanned over 400+ years. How is that even possible? The premise of the book is what drew us in to make this selection. And it was a total bore. I could barely get through the last 50 pages.
The Power by Naomi Alderman
I wrote a longer review on The Power which you can read here. And yeah, it was a pretty big let down. Especially since the concept and premise were so excellently crafted. I just thought the execution of this book was so scattered, disorganized, and slightly confusing. Add that to the fact that it was boring and you get a very disappointed reader.
The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn
Ah, another totally hyped up thriller. Rave reviews were thrown at this book, claims that it was the thriller of the year, etc. etc. etc. I think it was just an average popcorn thriller, at best. The fact that this book was so freaking hyped up is what got under my skin and probably caused me to knock off an extra star on Goodreads — out of spite and frustration. I wrote a longer review you can read here.
And that concludes Volume No. 10 of Overrated Reads! If you’ve read any of the books above, do you agree with any of my opinions?
