A few weeks ago, Alex and I went to an event hosted by Atlas Obscura. The afternoon was spent strolling through Tudor Place with beer, wine, snacks, and live jazz music from late afternoon through sunset. Tudor Place is America’s last intact urban estates from the Federal Period, it consists of a gorgeous historic mansion, situated in Georgetown, with the most breathtaking gardens I’ve seen in DC so far.The unique garden was created and preserved by the Peter family for over two centuries. There are flat stone paths with intimate spaces, beautiful plantings, fountains, and sculptures. The gardens had their very own greenhouse and gazebo’s galore. There were hedge mazes to walk through, there was corn-hole to play, and an ample supply of fresh blooms.
I felt like I was in a different world. In fact. I felt like I was walking around as Mrs. de Winter, in the novel “Rebecca.” I learned which flowers were currently in “Spring Bloom.” Mainly because the gardens had an abundance of florentine tulips, magnolias, dogwoods, azaleas, daffodils, columbines, lilacs, and redbuds. Not to mention all of the herbs that were sprinkled throughout the estate. I have always been extremely found of gardens, as they’re a wonderful place to sit, think, and get back in touch with nature. I never feel more at peace with myself than I do when I’m in a garden. Paths were lined with trimmed hedge, and others lined with the sweet smell of lilacs in bloom. Ample benches to sit, and just stare out at nature. It felt like a good opportunity to test out my photography skills, I’m super impressed with my little camera! One of my goals for this upcoming summer is to really focus [pun] on photography, learning to take breathtaking shots, play with light settings, aperture, and depth. What are some of your goals this summer?
