Even though they’re not native to where I grew up, I’ve always been attracted to succulents. Their elegant and intrinsic design, oh so beautiful. And they are extremely low maintenance. If that’s not a great enough excuse to validate my Southwestern foliage obsession, I don’t know what is.
Did you know that succulents are dated back to prehistoric times, and were around when dinosaurs were alive? #AlexFact
Throughout the summer, I’ve made numerous Home Depot runs, for a few various household items, and magically end up leaving with a new succulent. I just can’t help myself when I walk past the indoor plant section. Every. Single. Time.
WHY YOU SHOULD BUY SUCCULENTS
- They are so inexpensive. Like VERY inexpensive. You can find mini ones for as low as $2.00 though on average, plan on about $10.00 — $15.00 for one medium sized potted succulent.
- In fact, grouping two or three together makes a REALLY COOL plant!
- No care needed! Succulents can be left unattended to for months before they die.
- They are extremelly unique, and no two look the same.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SUCCULENTS
- On average, a succulent needs roughly 6 hours of sunlight a day, but honestly, I’ve had great luck keeping them in less than sunny spots around the house.
- Despite the myths, you DO need to water them. Soak enough so the soil is completely wet and let dry out completely before watering again.
- Avoid glass jars, or any pots that do not drain. Though I typically keep mine in mason jars because it’s just too cute to resist!
