Alex and I hosted Thanksgiving 2016 at our home. Alex’s sister took the Amtrak down from NYC to join us, as well as one of our favorite DC couples.
We started our day off early, as I signed us up for the 15th Annual SOME Turkey Trot. Running Turkey Trots on Thanksgiving morning is a long standing tradition of mine. Though, I’ve been a total slacker with running these days, so my time wasn’t the hottest. But a clocked in pace of 9:35 per mile didn’t feel too shabby.
Abby arrived at our little yellow house early afternoon. I had cooked all the side dishes a few days prior and had picked up the turkey and the desserts from Whole Foods the day before. The only thing to do when we got home from the race was straightening up the house a bit, putting together a cheese, olives, and crackers plater, and baking the rolls Alex insisted we had. Wine was opened, and the oven was pre-heated.
THE TABLE
I was really inspired this year, while flipping through magazines on Thanksgiving ideas. Hence the place-settings of thyme, rosemary, and twine. Mini-pumpkins painted white, cranberries sprinkled artfully on the table, sprigs of rosemary, a burlap runner, festive colored blooms, and tapered candles.

It was so wonderful to be able to use all our new serving ware and dinning ware. All the wedding registry gifts that I’ve been dying to host with. We were still missing a few key things (ie. ice bucket, serving spoons, etc.), but we made it work! I’d say all in all, Thanksgiving 2016 was a success.
Oh, and of course — it wouldn’t be a proper visit from my sister in-law without a pedicure {with champagne} !
I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!
