What a wonderful and fantastic four-day weekend, I’m thrilled to catch you up on our Thanksgiving holiday, and I truly hope that your holiday was just as lovely!
MY THANKSGIVING TRADITION
On Thanksgiving morning, Alex and I woke up rather early to run in The 14th Annual Trot for Hunger race. The course was wonderful as it looped us around the National Mall, passing by the Capitol building. I was beyond proud of Alex, as those 3.2 miles were the farthest he’s ever ran (seriously). Also, all of the proceeds benefit thousands of homeless families by providing much-needed food, clothing and healthcare. I sign up for Turkey Trots every year, and I was so happy to share this long-standing tradition of mine with Alex.
THE MENU
Once we were home, showered, and fed, I got started in the kitchen. I pre-ordered a turkey dinner for 4 from Whole Foods, which worked out exceptionally well. The meal from Whole Foods came with everything (sage stuffing, garlic mashed potatoes, savory green beans, gravy, cranberry sauce, and rosemary turkey breast), needless to say it was absolutely delicious, and it was less than $100 — highly recommended!
It saved quite the headache and hassle of cooking, broiling, and preparing all of that food. Instead, I was able to enjoy my morning! All I really had to do was prepare a platter of appetizers and bake desserts.
The vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting and mini apple pies were baked, and the appetizer plate was set and ready to go by the time our two guests arrived at our apartment. Thanksgiving dinner was fantastic, and we were delighted that not only Alex’s sister joined us from NYC, but our friend Will was able to join us as well. After we were completely stuffed, we opted to continue with dessert and coffee in the living room, playing games and talking until nearly midnight. A+ night!
THE REST OF THE WEEKEND
A total blur of brunches, restaurants, and bars around the city. Abby and I treated ourselves to a beauty day, complete with blow-outs from Drybar and champagne with our pedicures. We explored Eastern Market and did a ton of walking around the city. It went by way too quickly, as these things typically do.
We dropped Abby off at Union Station late Sunday afternoon to catch her train back to NYC. Alex and I spent the rest of the evening on the couch binge watching Twin Peaks. We finally have the answer that was on everyone’s lips in 1990 — ‘Who Killed Laura Palmer?’
