Oh Ruth Ware, you’ve managed to do it again! Turn of the Key is Ruth Ware’s fifth and latest release. And just like the four novels that came before it, Turn of the Key is a thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat, tightly gripping your book, heart pounding the whole time. Very enjoyable, utterly suspenseful, and very engaging!
Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware
Ware successfully managed (yet again) to create a super creepy and very vivid backdrop for our novel. I felt like I was right there with our main character Rowan as she took us through her story, in the form of a letter to her prospective attorney. Rowan stumbles across an ad for a nanny gig that seems almost too good to be true. The build up is perfect, the suspense is real, and it was such a page turner that I was able to finish it within ~10 days (finding time to read with a baby is a struggle).
The Twists and Turns
There are a few twists and surprises revealed, and each one had me fooled. The BIG one at the end, when we find out the real reason Rowan HAD to have this job will leave you wanting to skim the book again to let everything fall into place. It was great! And lastly, (not a spoiler! we know Rowan is in prison and one of the four children is dead from the very first page), I loved that we weren’t sure up until the very, very end which of the four children was dead. I totally guessed wrong.
Overall, it was definitely an enjoyable and quick read. As of today, October 2019 it holds 4.03 stars on GoodReads with 26K ratings. Happy Reading!
