You know what’s better than reading an awesome thriller novel? Having the very next book you read just as suspenseful and enjoyable. And even better than that? Having the third book in a row be just a great. I recently finished three books back to back that were all gripping, suspenseful, and impossible to put down.
If you’re looking for a few novels to curl up with during the relaxing down time in between Christmas and NYE, look no further than these three.
NOVEL #1
Before the Fall by Noah Hawley. A total of eleven passengers are on board a private jet plane, going from Martha’s Vineyard to New York City, one summer evening. Sixteen minutes after take off, the plane crashes into the Atlantic. There are only two survivors, a four year old son of a multi-billionaire, and a painter — who was never supposed to be on the plane.
Based on who was on board, and now rotting at the bottom of the ocean, there is a long, very detailed investigation as to what happened before the fall. Why did it crash? The author intimately introduces you to each and every passenger, their families, their work, their thoughts, their world. It was so well written, and so suspenseful. It will keep you guessing until the very end. I loved it so much, 5/5 stars.
NOVEL #2
The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware. I really enjoyed In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ware, so I knew I had to read The Woman in Cabin 10. Plus, people have not stopped talking about this book and it just so happened to be the very last book to finish up on my fall reading list. Let me just preface with: yes, I liked it, though I enjoyed Ware’s first novel better…. There! I said it!
I thought it was a good book, the twist definitely threw me in for a loop, but that didn’t happen until nearly 2/3 in. Up until we figured out who the woman in cabin 10 was (and why it mattered), the book was starting to go in irritating circles. Ware did do a great job wrapping up the rest of the book, and kept me glued to it for the remaining 100 pages or so. And for that, I give it a 4/5 stars.
NOVEL #3
Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris. I listened to this as an audiobook on my morning walks, and finished within days. I couldn’t stop listening to it. In full disclosure, the plot was totally unbelievable and very far fetched (to the point of ridiculous), but once you mentally got past that, it was great. High praise to the author for keeping me on my toes the entire time! Grace and Jack, the perfect marriage or the perfect lie? That’s all I’ll say! Because of how absurd the plot was, I give it 4/5 stars.
OK, glad to have carved out your week between Christmas and NYE reading list! If you’ve read any of these three novels, do you agree? Did you find them as suspenseful and fast paced as I did?
