Happy Wednesday friends, I hope everyone had a fantastic Labor Day Weekend! We definitely did. Alex and I traveled to Springfield, MO for a friend’s wedding over the holiday weekend, and we had the best time. I kicked off the weekend at Jazz in the Garden on Friday with my girlfriends — live jazz, red sangria, perfect outdoor weather, lying on blankets in the lawn.
SATURDAY
We ended up sharing our flights from DC to Chicago to Springfield with one of our favorite DC couples, which made traveling all the more fun. Shortly after we checked into the hotel in Springfield, we were picked up by a megabus to transport the out-of-town guests to the brides family farm. There was a mini petting zoo with baby goats, donkeys, and cows. So many cows! A hayride around the property, a white tent with garden chairs and white linen, bistro lighting, a dance floor, a live folk band, outdoor games, mason jars galore, and the best BBQ I’ve ever tasted. It was a blast.
SUNDAY
We were bell to bell busy. On Sunday morning, after we showered and ate breakfast, we headed into town. As we walked, we passed a banner for a reptile show. Alex begged, and begged, and I caved. Though, I couldn’t look at half of the exhibits (I loathe snakes). Once that itch was scratched, we continued on into town. We went to one of the top doughnut shops — IMO — before grabbing lunch. Afterwards, we met up with Alex’s college friends, and the 9 of us went to an escape room. It was SO much fun, and Alex was a champion. We solved the mystery, and were out with six minutes to spare. Afterwards, I was dragged (against my will) to a massive Bass Pro Shop.
Once back at the hotel, we had just enough time to shower and change into our cocktail attire, and head over to the Gillioz Theatre for the wedding. It was so beautiful, and so unique. The bride and groom exchanged their vows on stage, as we sat in the audience. Drinks and appetizers were served on the balcony level, and dinner for 180 was served in a private room. We went back downstairs, where there was a live band on stage, which also served as our dance floor. We danced the night away.
It’s definitely safe to say that Sunday was the most active we’ve been on a weekend getaway, which felt great.
MONDAY
We spent all of Monday commuting back home from Springfield to DC, and were home with our feet still aching from dancing, and really fond memories before 7pm. Congratulations TG and MZ, what a blast!
What were you up to this Holiday Weekend, dear reader?
