I don’t know about you, but I can’t stop, wont’ stop, reading Refinery29’s Money Diaries. It’s beyond fun and addicting to read. BTW, you’re welcome for the next hour of entertainment while you’re at the office on a Monday…
I thought it would be neat to do something similar with my week — though, I’ll save the part where I share my salary and monthly expenses for another time! Alright, let’s jump into what I spent my money on last week!
DARA’S MONEY DIARY | WEEK OF NOVEMBER 14 — 20
MONDAY
8:03AM I literally had no time to grab groceries over the weekend. Come Monday morning, in between loads of laundry, I ran out to Safeway to get our weekly groceries. $42.97
6:30PM I was on my own today for dinner tonight, and didn’t really have anything prepared, even though I just bought groceries. So I grabbed a wrap at a local shop. $6.32
10:52PM Maybe this wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t so sleep deprived, but I was working late into the evening (read: past 10PM), and on an impulse, I bought myself a bracelet, just because. It was a long day. Don’t judge. $57.87
TUESDAY
9:13AM Realized we were running super low on herbal tea, toilet paper, K-cups, salsa, and tomato juice. You know, things that would not sit well in this house without. Immediately put together a cart on Boxed. $100.54
WEDNESDAY
10:20AM Decided to grab (a second) breakfast at Starbucks on my way to work. Blueberry muffin and a Venti Dark. $5.42
7:15PM I had dinner already cooked, and ready to be heated up. But Alex insisted we get pizza. He paid.
THURSDAY
11:50AM I wanted to try a new coffee shop. I got a crafted medium roast brew that smelled like butter, nuts, and caramel [perfection]. $3.86
1:110PM Today is a cook day, and two of the 11 recipes I’m making calls for cumin and dried dill. I also needed a new bag of peeled garlic, tomato paste, and wax paper. A quick trip into Whole Foods was called for. $17.54
FRIDAY
9:55AM I need the car today, so I offer to drop Alex off at work. Which means I’m going to spend at least an hour at my new favorite coffee spot by his office, in order to wait for rush-hour traffic back into the city to die off. A cup of coffee + street parking. $5.16
SATURDAY
4:50PM I placed an Amazon order for two books I’ve been dying to read, and since I’ve been patiently waiting on the library’s wait list for months I figured I’d just buy them. A girl can only be patient for so long… $29.87
6:30PM We went out for Indian food and to see Moby Dick as a fun double date night. Alex paid for dinner and the show.
9:10PM During intermission, I wanted something hot to drink. I got a small cup of hot cocoa. $3.00
SUNDAY
9:15AM Though it was freezing and so windy outside, I wanted to take a morning walk to listen to the audiobook I’m currently listening too. I passed a Starbucks (on purpose). $2.92
1:05PM I had another bridal fitting, and figured I’d wait until after the fitting to stuff my face with lunch. Since I was ravenous, I got Potbelly’s, a quick favorite. $7.86
2:10PM I needed alone time to finish our day-of timeline, much overdue to our wedding planner. Grabbed another cup of coffee and sat with my computer. Got distracted, and looked up Thanksgiving side dish recipes instead. $2.90
3:25PM Noticed we were running low on gas. I wanted to do something kind (since Alex is usually the one who takes the car M-F), so I filled up the car. I could have been extra nice, and gotten the car washed too, but I was eager to get home. $25.86
5:50PM Alex still needed a new pair of kicks for the wedding. I agreed to help him out. We drove to Pentagon City, bought him a handsome pair of leather shoes, and had dinner. He paid.
6:55PM I asked Alex to stop on the way home. I really, really wanted hot cocoa (again) and mini marshmallows. Since it was my craving, I paid. $4.32
Week Total = $316.41
Mostly on food and coffee! Typical. What do you spend most of your money on?
