I am certainly not a fashion blogger, by any means. I don’t have a single outfit post here on Peonies+Bees, but I’m very excited to share this with you…I’ve decided I’m moving forward with a Fall / Winter 2016 Capsule Wardrobe.
If you haven’t heard of a seasonal capsule, let me quickly get you up to speed.
WHAT IS A CAPSULE WARDROBE?
Coined in the 70’s by London boutique owner, Susie Faux, it’s all about dressing with a small collection of seasonally appropriate, mix-and-match clothes. Think: mini wardrobe compiled of super versatile pieces that you love wearing.
WHY CREATE A CAPSULE WARDROBE?
I truly despise getting dressed in the morning. Well, let me rephrase. I despise picking out an outfit in the morning. When I came across the idea of a wardrobe capsule, I knew it was something that would best fit my lifestyle. Or at least the lifestyle I envision for myself.
I always end up picking out the same 5 outfits anyway, so curating a closet full of clothes that are all able to work well with each other just made sense.
WHAT ARE THE RULES?
- Carefully curate the capsule so that you LOVE everything in it
- Ensure it’s versatile so you can maximize your outfit combinations from a limited number of items
- Keep the capsule under 35 items (mix of tops, bottoms, outerwear, shoes, sweaters, and dresses)
- Once the capsule is built, there is no shopping until the next season!
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE?
Your capsule does not include accessories, purses / bags, jewelry, workout clothes, PJ’s, underwear, bras, socks, panty-hose, or loungewear. So limiting yourself to only 35 items doesn’t seem so daunting anymore, does it?
OK! So let’s get into it, and let me show you what my Fall + Winter 2016 Capsule looks like.
TOPS ~ TEES, SWEATERS, & OUTWEAR
BOTTOMS ~ PANTS, SKIRTS, & SHOES
WHY I’M SO EXCITED
These are all pieces that I love, are super comfortable, and my usual go-to’s that I’d grab in a pinch. My capsule is a happy blend of some old, long time favorites, mixed with a few new purchases.
This capsule is almost f i n i s h e d (well, once I purchase a few more items), and when it is, the goal is to NOT shop for another mindless item until Spring / Summer 2017 rolls around!

What do you think of the idea of a capsule wardrobe? Do you love it, or find the idea of it horrifying?
