It’s been a very challenging few weeks. Lately, it seems as if a million little obstacles have been thrown my way, coming at me hard and fast with no relief in the near future. Between the house, the wedding, and everything in between. These obstacles have been presenting themselves as little hurdles I have to keep jumping over. Testing my patience. Seeing how cool, calm, and collective I can stay.
During a long, long walk around the city, I finally realized with beaming clarity that these annoying, frustrating, pull-my-hair-out situations, are all ‘good’ problems to have. And mainly, perspective is everything. These said problems only exist because of all the good things changing and evolving in my life. There is a thick, bright silver lining on each and every one of these obstacles. I need to keep reminding myself of that.
These are some of the big ones — I’ll spare you of the little nothing-burgers:
1. Our apartment is still on the market for rent. Which means a million emails to potential tenants, and a million nights racing back to the apartment after work to give tours. It’s exhausting, and nerve racking to carry two mortgages — one of which we need rented out.
Silver Lining: we are fortunate enough to own two properties in DC
2. In a rush, we parked in a not so well marked spot in our new neighborhood lot. We we’re pretty confident it was one of the guest parking spots. It wasn’t. Our car got towed. It was a $370 to get it back.
Silver Lining: We now know which are the ‘official’ guest spots, and which aren’t.
3. The beautiful, cozy, chic couches I ordered for the basement were finally delivered. They did not fit through the basement door. Couches were loaded back onto the truck, and I’m now responsible for a 30% restocking fee. [Thanks, Ashley Furniture]
Silver Lining: I now know I should measure the door frame prior to ordering furniture, I swear, I didn’t think that was a ‘thing’ so of course my ego is bruised in that one…
4. Our hot water stopped working. We had to take cold showers for two days before we figured out it had to do with the pilot light.
Silver Lining: we now know how to reset that pesky pilot light in the event it clicks off again — because there is nothing worse than a cold morning shower — no matter how hot it is outside!
And that my friends, is the silver lining. What are some minor obstacles you’re currently facing?
