Let’s face it. Growing long, luscious, thick mermaid hair is nearly impossible. In fact, my hairdresser confirmed it. Some women simply cannot grow their hair past a certain length — no matter what they do. See, it is impossible! While this is slightly consoling, it’s still disappointing, as I am one of those women whose hair refuses to grow past armpit length (ugh).
Here you have it. My less than impressive armpit length hair (which has so many split ends, I never wear it this pin straight, but for the sake of this exercise, here it is)! It’s not bad. But it’s not great. When Irresistible Me contacted me to test out their hair extensions, I was giddy with excitement.
And that’s because I’m no stranger to clip-in extensions. In fact, I was a slave to them in college. Specifically, I wore Hairdo — Jessica Simpson’s brand. While I loved the thick, long, luscious curls it gave me, there were so many negatives that came along with it. Essentially, Hairdo is one gigantic clip-in piece (think half a wig), that’s made out of synthetic hair-like material, meaning no heat and no brushing, therefore it tangled easily, lasting only a few months at best. After about a year or so, I stopped wearing extensions all together, never looking back. Until now…With Irresistible Me, it’s a whole new story. It’s like a breath of fresh air. I was totally blown away with Irresistible Me’s product. First off, it’s real human hair, meaning you can brush it, curl it, flat iron it, and style it (yes!). Super silky, soft, and the color blends in beautifully.
Already, has a huge advantage over the Hairdo that I wore everyday for nearly a year. Also, there are multiple clip-in pieces, in varying widths that allows you to style it how you’d like. Let’s get started on a quick tutorial:
Working from the bottom up, you’ll add the largest, 4 clipped (7.5″) section (aka weft) first. Splitting your hair from slightly above the ears, you’ll throw your own hair into a top knot on your head while clipping in the 4 clipped weft. Lower your hair, and smooth it out.
Now splitting it an inch or so higher, around the temples, pull your hair into another top knot. Apply one 3 clipped weft to the left side of your head, getting as close to the hairline as possible. Now add a second 3 clipped weft on the right side. Look at that new added thickness! Eek!For extra volume and oomph, add the last few one or two clipped weft pieces where you feel it would be best. Full disclosure, I didn’t use the entire set — I thought it would be a bit too much.
I was originally worried that the color would be slightly off because of my balayage, but it blended in so seamlessly. It was almost as if my hairdresser colored them himself (he didn’t). If you’re not 100% sure, you can take extensions to your hairdresser to have them cut specifically to suit your style, so don’t panic if you wanted a more layered, or angled look. Also, since they are made of real human hair, you’re able to do nearly anything with them which includes coloring. Most hair salons are willing to work with extensions — yes, even clip-in ones!
So there you have it, my new secret weapon for killer party hair. What do you think?
