We are busy. We have a lot of things going on in any given week. Like a painful amount. Staying well grounded, and spreading your attention, energy, and focus evenly in multiple aspects can be tough at times.
So today, I’m sharing a few tips on how to feel calm, grounded, clear-headed, and motivated. Because you deserve to live your best life, especially now as we jump into the holiday season!
But, before we start, did you know that a properly balanced life is broken up into two main categories: internal and external
- Internal: Mind, Heart, & Health
- External: Work, Fun, Social, Family & Relationships
When you feel you are pulled too hard towards one aspect of your life, and feel the others are being neglected, you need to take a step back in order to reground yourself.
Here are five helpful tips in order to do so:
1. TAKE YOUR TEMPERATURE
Check in with yourself and see how you’re feeling. Where is your current state of mind? What areas of your life are you neglecting? Which additional areas of your life would you like to / need to make more room for?
2. WRITE IT OUT
Lists, lists, lists! Pro tip: have separate to-do lists for each category in your life. Taking it a step further, each aspect of your life deserves it’s own set of goals. Take time today, and write out the top five goals you’d like to achieve in 2017 for each.
3. THE PLANNING
Daily, weekly, and monthly outlines help me achieve a decent flow and overview of how I’d like to go about crossing certain things off. Whatever platform works best for you. Whether it’s a googledoc, iCal, or a good ol’ pen and paper, p-l-a-n i-t o-u-t.
4. REFLECTION
Take sometime each week, or month and see what it is you accomplished. Or, what it is you were supposed to get around to, but didn’t. Figure out what’s holding you back. Where was your energy spent? Or alternatively, how did you stay focused to meet your goal?
5. STAY KIND AND PATIENT
Remember, above all, stay kind to yourself. It’s OK if you’ve fallen a bit behind, the import thing to note is that you are trying your best — we all are. So give yourself some credit, and remember that forming new habits takes time and patience.
What are some things that you do to stay well-balanced?
PS. this is something I work on every December for the upcoming year. Can’t believe it’s almost that time again!
