Is it me, or does it seem like Spring wants to come early this year? Welcome to another installment of Money Diaries! Today is Volume 4, and I’m pumped to share with you what I spent my money on.
MONEY DIARIES | VOLUME NO. 4 | WEEK OF FEBRUARY 13 — 19
MONDAY
9:40AM We were in Tucson over the weekend, and spent all of Sunday commuting home / sleeping off jet lag. I drop Alex off at work, so I can take the car for the day. I park the car in my usual spot, and head into my favorite coffee shop to get a latte. Parking $3
9:55AM There is a sign taped to the door of the coffee shop, stating it’s closed for the day due to the high winds. I wish I was kidding. I end up going to Costco to begin my series of errands. $34.42
10:45AM Next, I head to Home Depot, I have a few items to exchange and then new ones to purchase. We have contractors arriving again on Thursday. $$$$ from Home Reno Fund
11:05AM Since I still haven’t had my coffee (or breakfast), I walk next door to Starbucks. I grab a dark roast and a blueberry muffin. I have my laptop with me, and I park myself at a hightop to do some work. $5.19
12:10PM I walk into the Barnes and Noble attached to Starbucks. I remember tomorrow is Valentines Day, and I need to get Alex a card. $6.83
2:30PM Groceries for the week. Safeway $70.98
4:45PM We’re running crazy low on gas. Since I’m the one using the car today, I fill up the car. $27.92
6:30PM I pick up Alex from work. Once we’re home, I get started on meal prepping for the week. You know, salads, dinners and snack items for the week. We eat dinner at home.
TUESDAY
7:00AM I take a brisk walk around the neighborhood, it’s freezing. For breakfast I have a greek yogurt, coffee, and an apple at home.
8:45AM Swing by Starbucks on my way to my clients home. I grab a venti dark roast, which is exactly what I need! $2.19
2:00PM I come home and begin KonMari’ing our basement, which has been on my list for a while. I end up skipping lunch (terrible, I know), and decide to snack a bit before Alex gets home from work.
6:45PM It’s Valentines Day, Alex comes home with a potted orchid and a card. I decided a few weeks back that I’d rather cook for us than go out. We spend the rest of the evening finishing up Breaking Bad and cracking open a few beers. Perfect evening, if you ask me!
WEDNESDAY
7:00AM I was feeling a bit sick last night, and this morning I woke up feeling horrible. Like body aches, sore throat, runny nose, chills, congestion, all of it. I’m too sick to eat. So I don’t. Today is a work from home day for me.
12:40PM I am still not hungry, that’s how ill I’m feeling. But I decide an almond chai might just do the trick. It’s delicious, but it doesn’t. $5.33
3:30PM I figure I need to eat something. So I force myself to buy a 1/2 a Greek salad and 1/2 a grilled cheese from Panera. I eat 1/2 of each. $7.57
6:00PMI decide to go see a doctor, because whatever I have is getting worse as the day goes on. It’s confirmed by the doctor. I have a ridiculously high fever, and was asked to quarantine myself. At CVS I buy a thermometer, Tylenol, the Rx prescribed, and a 1/2 gallon of yellow Gatorade. $23.43
7:15PM I finally arrive home, ready to die. My body is in so much pain. I come home to see 4 gallons of yellow Gatorade on the kitchen counter. I love my husband. I chug 1/2 of one, and crawl into bed. I don’t wake up until morning
THURSDAY
11:00AM I still feel like garbage. Alex made me tea before he left for work. Unfortunately, today we have contractors scheduled to come. And everything goes wrong. I have to deal with all of the annoyances, and problems, and unforeseen issues. Did I mention how high my fever is, and how I’m not happy dealing with this?
7:15PM The contractors are still here. And it’s still chaos. I was supposed to be resting in bed. Instead, I’m glued to the couch. I haven’t been able to leave the house (not that I would) all day. Fielding more issues and problems. It’s the day from hell. At least Alex walked in the door with sushi and miso soup. I love my husband.
FRIDAY
8:00AM I notice two HUGE ooopsies! due to the contractors ignorance. I’m livid. I force myself to eat a greek yogurt, and (angrily) wait for them to arrive.
2:00PM They’re here, and fixing the issue(s). Which has pushed back the schedule by at least another two days. It’s fine, I tell myself. It’s nbd, I tell myself. I eat a salad in the basement and try not to cry. I still feel terrible, and I have to deal with this. But hey, at least our beautiful French door fridge and brand new gas stove are here and working!
4:15PM They finally leave. I haven’t left the house since Wednesday. I go grab a latte to feel like a normal person. $4.13
7:00PM My sister in-law is coming into town this weekend, and I realize I need to pick up groceries before her arrival, plus I’m super eager to cook dinner on our beautiful new 6 range burner. $43.24
SATURDAY
10:15AM I have a bloggers workshop to attend. Thankfully I was feeling better, and stopped for a cup of coffee on the way there. $2.70
7:00PM Sissy is here! For dinner, we have to go to about 4 different restaurants before we are able to get seated / all agree on the menu. Shame on us for not having Saturday night reservations in DC. Alex pays.
8:30PM We grab an ice cream cone from next door. I end up with two scoops of Mexican hot chocolate. Sissy pays.
SUNDAY
12:15PM Abby and I have an all day girls day. We end up heading to Pentagon City to do some much needed shopping. Around lunch time, we settle on a food-court lunch of Chipotle. Yaaaaaaaas! $10.84
1:00PM Afterwards, I buy our coffees. $8.37
1:10PM I ran out of dry shampoo (no surprise, since I basically live off it) and just ran out of Smashbox primer. I pop into Sephora for a quick purchase. $30.74
3:00PM We head over to the nearest nail salon outside of the mall. I get a gel, sissy gets a mani / pedi. My nails are OPI’s Pink Flamenco, and they’re awesome! $41.00
4:45PM Parking. $6.00
6:00PM We attend a yoga class near my house. It was already pre-paid with my monthly fee.
7:30PM Alex meets us for dinner. We end up at our go-to Indian restaurant. Alex pays
