Now that we’re back into the swing of things — we’re all back from holiday, brains are cleared from vacation-mode, and well readjusted to our daily workflow (kind of) — I thought it would be fun to share what my typical morning looks like Monday-Friday.
6:05AM
My alarm is always set for 6:05AM. Whether or not I hit snooze one or two more times (sorry, Alex) depends on how groggy I am. But more times than not, I push myself out of bed by the time 6:20AM rolls around. As quietly as I can, I grab a pair of running shorts, a sports bra, a tank, and a pair of socks to not disturb Alex anymore than the two (or three) alarms already have.
Laced up and out of the apartment, I quickly scroll through any emails and texts that may have come in overnight as I walk down the corridor towards the elevators. Since we’re no longer in the midst of crisp autumn weather, I opt out of morning walks / runs on the GW Parkway, and instead, I ride the elevator down eight flights to the basement gym of our apartment complex — I am currently on Week 3 of the Bikini Body Guide (BBG).
7:10AM
I’m back in the apartment by 7:10AM. I feed our betta fish and water our houseplants before booting up my laptop on the kitchen table. I grab a glass of V8 from the fridge and have my breakfast, usually an English muffin smothered in peanut butter, and an apple.
I throw my hair into a messy top knot before jumping into the shower and afterwards, moisturize like crazy because well, winter. I’ve gotten my makeup routine down to less than 10 minutes — a huge feat! And then run a flatiron over my cowlicks to smooth them over. At this point, Alex has already exercised and made the bed so we switch — the bathroom is all his.
I have a terrible habit of leaving my clothes from the day before on the floor, so after I finish dressing, I straighten up the bedroom, and then the living room, and then the kitchen (I have a very hard time leaving the house without straightening up everything). While I’m in the kitchen, I begin packing my lunch: snack baggies of dry cereal (usually Cheerios, like a 5 year old), fruit, and a salad that was prepped over the weekend.
8:30AM
I am out the door, and fortunate enough to have a less than 20 minute commute, door-to-door: four minute walk from the apartment to the metro — nine minute metro ride — four minute walk from metro to the office. Yes, I know how lucky I am with that. I wouldn’t know how to handle my life if I had to battle the beltway (AKA a DC nightmare)…
During this time, on my commute, I am listening to an audiobook — currently, I am reading listening to Pretty Baby, by Mary Kubica. I swing by Starbucks, pick up a Venti dark roast, and head into the office.
9:00AM
I’m at my desk just shy of 9:00AM, ready to tackle at whatever the day may bring…
