I’ve finally gotten to a point in my pregnancy where I actually look pregnant. Strangers will ask me when I’m due, if it’s a boy or a girl, if this is my first child, etc. Oh, and then go on to tell me some horror pregnancy / birth story about someone they know. I’m always like, “…….um, thanks for sharing that, have a nice day!” Exciting times! And with it comes maternity clothing!
FALL 2018 MATERNITY CAPSULE
This summer’s relentless humidity and brutal heat left me no choice but to spend all of my second trimester in dresses. I swear there was a heatwave every week, either here in DC or in every city I traveled to. I purchased a few new maternity dresses and was able to supplement the rest of my summer wardrobe with a few pre-pregnancy ones (maxi dresses FTW!). Luckily, I’m able to roll over two maternity dresses from my summer wardrobe to the fall capsule.
Once the weather cools off for fall, I know I’ll need (and want) a decent maternity wardrobe made for a growing belly. Almost everything — except for shoes and outerwear — in this years capsule is brand new, but don’t get excited, it’s my smallest capsule to date. Entering my third trimester, I’m not going to be able to get away with wearing anything (minus shoes and outerwear) from my pre-pregnancy closet.
But luckily it’s 2018, not 1978, so the maternity fashion isn’t that bad. In fact, I was able to mirror almost exactly what I would’ve chosen if I wasn’t 28+ weeks pregnant. Here’s what my maternity capsule looks like.

MIXING AND MATCHING A SMALL CLOSET
I’m going to restart up my subscription to Cladwell. I took a break for summer, because I didn’t need help selecting a dress in the morning. But now that pants, cardigans, and shoes (that aren’t sandals) are involved, the last thing I want to deal with is pairing up outfits. Trust me, I’m exhausted enough.
I’m excited for cooler weather, for layers, and for putting together a decent capsule. I know I’m going to get bigger and more uncomfortable with each passing week, but at least I’ll be in cute clothing!
