I knew very early on in my pregnancy that I was going to dedicate the first three months of my baby’s life to The Fourth Trimester…
What is the Fourth Trimester?
There’s a theory that states that human babies are born too soon, approximately three months earlier then they should. This is because the human head and the brain has evolved to be quite large, so we need to birth our babies a bit prematurely. Some people view the first three months of a baby’s life as having a fetus — just outside of the womb. The Fourth Trimester is all about mimicking life in the womb for your newborn. It’s a period where your baby adjusts to life on the outside, tons of love and support is needed to help make the transition easier.
My Fourth Trimester Capsule Wardrobe
My daughter was born on December 4th, 2018 — we’re just about six weeks into our fourth trimester, and I’m excited to share my comfy and practical wardrobe for this time period. Since everything I wear gets covered with all the fluids, mainly breastmilk, but not limited to spit-up, urine, poop, and even more breastmilk, I basically live in athleisure. Here are the five outfits I’ve been living in on a steady repeat.
THE FULL LIST
01 | Black Maternity Leggings
02 | Chambray Maternity Top
03 | Maroon Wunder Under Leggings
04 | Blush Long Sleeve Top
05 | Tan Stripped Zella Leggings
06 | Tan Velvet Oversized Zella Sweater
07 | Navy Wunder Under Leggings
08 | B&W Long Sleeve Top
09 | Blush Alo Leggings
10 | Blush Oversized Alo Sweater
14 | Navy Floral Robe
15 | Nike Tennis Shoes
If you couldn’t guess, high-waisted leggings are an absolute must-have right now. And the nursing tanks are amazing, super comfortable, and very easy to unhook and release the breast for a hungry and screaming infant.
In the mornings, I usually grab a tank top, a pair of leggings, a sweater — and boom! call it a day. Everything gets covered in breastmilk anyway. Since I do laundry literally once a day now, wearing these outfits on repeat is no problem! I also included my navy floral robe because there are some mornings where getting dressed after a shower takes hours and hours, and hours, so I’ll just wear the robe until I’m able to sneak a mere 5 minutes to dress myself.
And item no. 16 should really have my Solly Baby wrap listed, because I’m not fully dressed without it. Baby girl and I are living it when we’re not nursing.
If / when my husband and I actually go to a restaurant that requires more than leggings and tennis shoes, I simply wear maternity jeans and tall boots to pair with a nursing tank and sweater.
And that’s what my fourth trimester wardrobe looks like. As comfy and wonderful as it is, I’m very much looking forward to getting back into some of my pre-pregnancy clothes for spring.
