Once I actually roll out of bed and wipe the sleep out of my eyes, I consider myself a morning person. Most of my energy and motivation is released and consumed during the time of day that most people (read: night owls) dread. I love moving at a fast pace and being extremely productive before lunchtime. For me, squeezing in a morning workout only adds to that fruitfulness.
Kickstarting your day with a morning gym session is the way to go, and I’m here to tell you why:
Even if you accomplish nothing of substance afterwards, you still can cross exercising off your list, which many people struggle with. Bragging rights are yours for the taking.
You won’t have a dreaded obligation hanging over your head for the rest of the day; if you tackle a morning workout, you’re done! Happy hour? Sure. That new Tex-Mex place for dinner? Absolutely! You’re in the clear and can actually enjoy your social calendar without the guilt of blowing off another workout for a friends birthday party.
While there has been a lot of debate on exercising on an empty stomach (commonly called fasted cardio), you actually burn up to nearly 20% more fat by doing so before your first meal.
You will more likely than not stick with healthier food choices throughout the day, perhaps passing on leftover cake in the office. Not only are you more likely to eat better, but you will also burn more calories throughout the day.
Yes, it is a very tough habit to form, especially since it’s so easy to hit snooze, but once you have a few solid weeks of AM workouts under your belt, you’ll actually want to continue the cycle, I promise.
Oh, and ladies, let’s not forget about those endorphin’s that exercise gives you…
