In the mornings, I strive for spending as little time as humanly possible on my hair. My goal is to wash and blow dry my hair once, maybe twice, a week and maintain it on the in-between days. Of course, I still want to look presentable at work, so in order to do so, I need a team of pretty solid products that help me achieve a relatively effortless look in the mornings. All while keeping my locks healthy and strong.
Here are the eight items that are being used on the regular:
1. Ribbon Hair Ties. I sleep with my hair pulled into a top knot just about every night. In the mornings, when I take my hair out of the bun, I’m left with crease-free waves. These hair ties have become instrumental in my daily routine because of it.
2. Argan Oil. I use this twice a day, in the mornings and before bed. It’s the very last thing I do before leaving the bathroom. The oil smooths down any loose strands or frizz, and keeps the ends happy and hydrated. A small dime-sized amount is more than enough.
3. Wide Tooth Comb. These cause way less damage to your hair that a brush, especially wet hair straight from the shower. Resist the urge to use an actual brush on your wet hair, your hair is at it’s most vulnerable when it’s wet.
4. Bobby Pins. Addicted. I must have about four million between all my purses, bags, in between the sofa, and in the bathroom. They’re my go-to’s for throwing my hair in a half up / half down, or a small braid, or really any other hairstyle than down and loose.
5. Hair Spray. This hair spray is awesome. It smells SO good, and does a pretty solid job of holding blow-dried curls in place for a majority of the day. I’ve gone through so many of these bottles, I like to get them in the travel size to be able to cart them around easily when I’m on the go.
6. Styling Treatment. I’m pretty obsessed with with Living Proof and their PHD line, especially this styling treatment. I use just a small dollop before I blow-dry my hair, I think it does a great job with preventing breakage from the blow drier / hot iron combination, and helps hold the style in place.
7. Dry Shampoo. OK, I live off this stuff. I absolutely dread washing my hair, mainly because I barely have the time to squeeze in a blow dry, which means… I need those blowouts to last me three, four, five, and even six days (if I’m lucky). So I give my roots a spray or two before bedtime, and again in the mornings — if my hair is looking a bit raunchy.
8. Leave-In Conditioning Spray. On the days I wash my hair, and decide a blowout is just too much to handle, I’ll air dry it, allowing my natural waves to set it. Of course, that’s after I spray it and completely submerge it with leave-in conditioner. This stuff is great. I originally got it in my POPSUGAR box a few months back, and have been using it ever since.
With the help of each and every one of these products, I’m able to get away with washing only once, or twice, a week. Not only that, but my hair remains relatively healthy in between trims, so if my hair is happy, I’m happy.
