The Magic of Motherhood is a Magical Read for All Mothers
Ashlee Gaad, the author of The Magic of Motherhood, is also the founder of Coffee + Crumbs, a popular blog and podcast on all things motherhood. The Magic of Motherhood is a book of complied essays from Ashlee and the other writers / contributors of Coffee + Crumbs.
A Quick & Easy Heartwarming Read
The essays are short and sweet, and topics range from miscarriage, body image, IVF, marriage after kids, infertility, a woman’s identity, adoption, toddler struggles, and the daily challenge to keep it all afloat. The stories are honest and raw. Some essays will leave you in tears, and some will leave you thinking, ‘this is exactly how I feel, every single day.’
The Good Stuff, the Hard Stuff, and Everything In Between
It never really gets easier, just different. Every single stage of motherhood comes with it’s own set of challenges. But one thing I’ve learned for certain, mothers are far more capable, and stronger than we ever thought we would be. When pushed to our absolute limit in every sense of the word, we still somehow manage to find a reserve and power through, we do what it takes. We are mothers, however the road we took to get here, we are miraculous beings. We are mothers. We are not alone, and this book does an excellent job of reinforcing just that.
The Magic of Motherhood is a beautiful composition of essays and I highly recommend it. I did ding the book a full star, giving it 4 out of 5 on Goodreads, because it did get a bit Jesus-y at times. I get that the majority of the authors are devout Christians, but it felt like a lot of Christ talk in more than a handful of essays. I would have strongly preferred if they remained as non-religious as possible — but maybe that’s a me problem.
