I’m a firm believer in the old saying, ‘you get what you pay for.’ Especially when it comes to beauty products. That’s why I have zero problem dropping a boatload of dollars every few months or so during a Sephora / Ulta haul.
With that said, there is one particular product in my daily beauty regimen that I will only purchase at a drugstore.
Are you ready for it? It’s my mascara. That’s right, I purchase my mascara strictly from drugstores. And here’s why.
Mascara is one of those products that truly does need to be replaced every three months, at best. It’s actually recommended to swap out a new tube every six – ten weeks.
The fresher the tube, the smoother the mascara glides onto your lashes. Which basically means it’s more likely to provide clump-free lashes if the formula is fresh.
And if you’re buying designer brands, that gets pricey. Lancome, Givenchy, Giorgio Armani, Givenchy, and Yves Saint Laurent just to name a few can run you over $30.00 per tube.
Experts say that a seriously high quality, winsallthebeautyawards mascara is the happy marriage of:
- The Formula
- The Brush
- The Wiper (the plastic ring inside the tube).
When you get all three to perfectly align, it’s a beautiful thing. Which is so, so true, HOWEVER there is no denying that it is better to use a fresh, brand new tube of drug store mascara (read: cheap) over a tube of expensive designer mascara (see above) that you’re more likely to hoard onto for months.
My drugstore mascara of choice? Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Mascara.
I’ve been using it for ages, and I’m hooked. I have paid a crazy amount of money for a high-end brands, and guess what? The result is nearly the same as Falsies can do for me and my lashes.
Not only is the difference practically non-existent (I’m a secret believer that all mascara is kind of created equally), but I’m more likely to buy a new tube every six weeks on the dot — especially when the price tag is less than $7. Because when I buy the expensive stuff, I savor it for months, and months, until the mascara is old, crusty, and basically worthless.
And that’s my case for drugstore mascara. What mascara do you swear by?
